Humidity control
A cutting has no roots yet, so it relies on humid air to stop it drying out, and seeds germinate more evenly in a stable, moist atmosphere. The glossy 3 mm dome locks that moisture in and lets plenty of light through. The rotating vents are how you wean plants off it: keep them closed for the first few days, then open a little more each day as roots form and true leaves appear, so plants are ready for open air by the time the dome comes off.
Built to last, season after season
This is a heavy-duty kit built to be used season after season, not a single-use tray. The drip tray is made to carry the weight of a full, wet seedling tray, its raised grooves keep the seedling tray level while excess water drains away from the medium, and the whole kit is reusable. The height extension adds room for taller cuttings and more vents for extra airflow.

FAQ
How long should the dome stay on?
For seeds, until most have germinated and are standing up, usually a week or so. For cuttings, until they root, typically one to three weeks. Open the vents gradually over the last few days either way so the change is not a shock.
How much humidity do I need?
Cuttings like it very high, close to saturation, for the first few days. Seedlings need less once they are up. Condensation on the inside of the dome is normal and a good sign; if water is pooling or you see mould, open the vents a little more.
What goes in the cells?

Do I need a light and heat mat as well?
For cuttings, yes, all three help. For seeds, the dome and heat mat do the heavy lifting until they emerge, and light matters from the moment they break the surface. The Ionbeam S16 is the matching light.
Standard dome or XL?
The standard dome holds 40 cells and suits most home growers; the XL holds 72 cells for larger batches. Pick the size, then match the light: S11 for the standard, S16 for the XL.
