Coco coir is one of the easiest growing media to get great results from. It holds plenty of water and still stays light and airy, so roots get moisture and oxygen at the same time. This collection covers two ways to buy it: AC Infinity coco coir bricks that expand at home and store in a small space, and GreenPlanet 53 L coco bags that are ready to pour straight into the pot, in pure coco or a 70/30 perlite blend. Every coco here comes buffered, so it's ready to plant into from day one. For starting seeds and cuttings, Grodan rockwool starter plugs give young roots a clean, consistent start. Quick Bloom Lights is the official Australian importer of AC Infinity: stocked in Sydney, shipped domestically.

Why growers choose coco coir

Coco coir is made from coconut husk fibre, a renewable by-product and a peat-free alternative. It holds water evenly without going soggy, drains freely, and leaves plenty of air space around the roots, which is why it suits everything from hand-watered pots to drip-fed hydro. It's soilless, so it brings no soil-borne pests into the grow space, and because it's inert you stay in full control of feeding. Buffering matters too: raw coco can hold on to calcium and magnesium, and buffered coco is pre-treated so those nutrients stay available to the plant from the first feed.

AC Infinity coco coir bricks

The AC Infinity Coco Coir Instant Potting Mix is 100% organic coir, triple-washed and buffered with calcium for stable pH and low EC (under 0.5 mS/cm). Add water, give it up to 30 minutes, break it up by hand and it's ready to use. Each 17.7 × 17.7 × 5.1 cm brick is light, clean and keeps well in a cool, dry spot, so it's easy to keep a few on the shelf for the next run. One brick fills a 3 gallon pot, two fill a 5 gallon.

Starting fresh? The AC Infinity Instant Potting Mix Kit pairs four bricks with two 5 gallon heavy-duty fabric pots and two multipurpose trays. The trays double as the hydration tub for the bricks and as saucers under the pots. Buying it as a kit costs less than the parts separately and arrives in one order.

GreenPlanet 53 L coco bags

For larger setups, GreenPlanet Professional Coco comes pre-washed, buffered and ready to pour, with no soaking or prep. It's RHP certified for water absorption, air content, pH and purity, and produced in an ISO 9001-certified facility for consistency from bag to bag. One 53 L bag fills about two and a half 5 gallon pots.

Prefer a lighter, faster-draining mix? GreenPlanet Professional Coco 70/30 Perlite blends the same buffered coco with 30% perlite. The extra air space lets you water and feed more often, which makes it a favourite for drip systems and growers chasing fast growth.

Shipping note: some rural areas (WA, TAS and Far North QLD) aren't eligible for free shipping on the 53 L coco bags. Ask us if you're unsure before ordering. The compact AC Infinity bricks are an easy option for those areas.

Grodan rockwool starter plugs

Grodan Pro Seedling Starter Plugs are the easy way to get seeds and cuttings going. Each sheet holds 98 plugs of 36 × 36 × 40 mm with a 10 mm seed hole, and the rockwool holds an even balance of air and moisture for fast, healthy root development. When roots show through the plug, set it straight into coco and keep growing. Grodan is a long-trusted name in horticulture. For heat mats, domes and trays to go with them, see AC Infinity Propagation and Seed Starter.

Pots and nutrients to match

Coco performs at its best in fabric. AC Infinity fabric pots and self-watering bases air-prune roots and keep moisture even, and the pot sizes line up neatly with the bricks. Because coco is inert, plants rely on what you feed them: GreenPlanet Dual Fuel with Pro Cal is a simple coco-ready pairing, and the Athena range is another strong option.

FAQ

Bricks or bags: which should I buy?

Bricks suit smaller grows, tight storage and anyone who wants to mix only what they need. Bags suit bigger setups where you'd rather open and pour. Both are buffered and ready once hydrated or opened.

Straight coco or 70/30 perlite?

Straight coco holds more water between feeds and is forgiving if you water less often. 70/30 drains faster and holds more air, so it suits frequent feeding and drip systems. If you tend to overwater, 70/30 is the safer pick.

How much coco do I need?

As a guide: a 3 gallon pot (12.9 L) takes one AC Infinity brick, a 5 gallon (20.4 L) takes two, a 7 gallon (29 L) three and a 10 gallon (42 L) four. One GreenPlanet 53 L bag fills about two and a half 5 gallon pots.

Do I need to rinse or buffer it?

No. Every coco in this collection is already washed and buffered. Once you start feeding, check runoff pH and EC to keep things on track.

Do I need nutrients with coco?

Yes. Coco is an inert medium, so feed with a coco-suitable nutrient from the start.

Can I move rockwool plugs into coco?

Yes. It's a common way to grow: start in a Grodan plug, then plant the whole plug into coco once roots appear. There's no need to remove the rockwool.

Can I reuse coco?

Many growers do after rinsing and re-buffering. A fresh brick or bag gives the most predictable start.
