An AC Infinity Air Filter Box is a steel filter housing that sits in a duct run and takes dust, dirt, pollen and lint out of the air before it reaches the space. It is an intake device: it cleans the outside air a fan is pulling in. Three sizes, matched to 100, 150 and 200 mm ducting and to the CLOUDLINE fan of the same size.

The job it does well is stopping the outside world getting in — road dust into a workshop, pollen into a bedroom on a fresh-air intake, dirt into a subfloor or roof space, particles into a sealed grow room. Quick Bloom Lights is the official Australian importer and distributor for AC Infinity. Stock is held in Punchbowl, Sydney, orders ship Australia-wide, and warranty is handled here.

Filter box or carbon filter? They solve opposite problems and people mix them up constantly. A filter box stops particles coming in. A carbon filter stops odour going out. AC Infinity list odour among what the pleated filter traps, and it will hold back some odour-carrying dust — but if smell is the problem you are solving, buy carbon. Plenty of installs run both: filter box on the intake, carbon filter on the outlet.

The three sizes

Size Airflow, fan and filter Price
100 mm (4″)
AC-AFB4

150 mm (6″)
AC-AFB6
800 CFM max, 182–272 CFM minimum range · fits CLOUDLINE S6 and T6 · takes 12 × 20 × 1″ filters $259.95
200 mm (8″)
AC-AFB8
1,600 CFM max, 402–604 CFM minimum range · fits CLOUDLINE S8 and T8 · takes 14 × 20 × 1″ filters $319.95

Match the box to the fan and the ducting, not to the room. Reducing a larger fan down into a smaller filter box raises static pressure sharply and throws away airflow you have already paid for.

What they are used for

Fresh-air intake into a house Ducting outside air in without bringing pollen, road dust and insects with it. The usual answer for anyone running mechanical intake ventilation on a busy road or through a pollen season.
Subfloor and roof space intake Where a subfloor or underfloor system draws makeup air from a dusty or exposed elevation, filtering the intake keeps the void from filling with what the fan drags in.
Garage, shed and workshop Ventilating a workshop without filling it with the dust off an unsealed drive. Also worth having on the intake of a space with sensitive equipment or finishes.
Sealed grow rooms and tents Filtering incoming air keeps spores, dust and insects out of the room, which is the half of the job a carbon filter on the exhaust cannot do.
Any ducted extraction you want filtered A shutter fan has nowhere to put a filter. An inline fan with a filter box is the only practical way to filter a ducted run.

Built to be left alone

All three are 1 mm cold-rolled steel with a matte black powder coat and aluminium duct flanges, rated by AC Infinity to withstand inclement weather — which matters, because the right place for an intake filter is usually the outside end of the run.

Servicing is a hinge-sealed door with a slide lock: open it, swap the pleated filter, close it. A neoprene lining holds the filter square so dust goes through the media rather than around it. Nothing to dismantle, no ducting to disconnect. The chamber takes any standard MERV panel filter in the right size, so replacements are not tied to one supplier.

FAQ

Will a filter box reduce my airflow?

Yes — every filter is a restriction, and a denser filter restricts more. That is why AC Infinity pair these with high static-pressure mixed-flow fans rather than axial ones: a CLOUDLINE holds airflow under filter load where a straight axial fan collapses. If you are near the limit on airflow, size the fan up rather than skipping the filter.

Where does it go in the duct run?

At the start, on the intake end, so particles are stopped before they pass through the fan and into the space. Put it at the far end and the duct and the fan collect everything the filter was meant to catch. Keep the run reasonably short and straight either side of it.

Can I get replacement filters in Australia?

Yes. The 100 and 150 mm boxes take a standard 12 × 20 × 1″ panel filter and the 200 mm takes 14 × 20 × 1″. Those are common HVAC sizes from air-conditioning and filtration suppliers — they are US-standard imperial sizes, so search by the inch dimensions rather than metric. Message us if you would rather we pointed you at a supplier.

How often do I change the filter?

There is no fixed interval — it depends on how dirty your intake air is and how many hours the fan runs. Look at it: when the pleats are visibly grey and loaded, or airflow has dropped at the same fan speed, change it. Choose a position you can actually reach when you install it.

Is this genuine AC Infinity stock with an Australian warranty?

Yes. Quick Bloom Lights is the official Australian importer and distributor for AC Infinity. Stock is held in Sydney, orders ship domestically, and the two-year warranty is handled here rather than through an overseas seller.
