Coco coir gives roots the best of both worlds: it holds plenty of water yet stays light and airy, so roots get oxygen as well as moisture. This mix is triple-washed to remove excess salts and buffered with calcium, which keeps pH and EC steady and nutrients available from day one. How do I expand it?
Place the brick in a tray or bucket, add water and give it up to 30 minutes, then break it apart by hand. Add water gradually until it is evenly moist but not soggy.
How many bricks do I need?
One brick fills a 3 gallon pot. As a guide, a 5 gallon pot (20.4 L) takes two bricks, a 7 gallon (29 L) takes three, and a 10 gallon (42 L) takes four.
Do I need to rinse or buffer it?
No. It is already triple-washed and calcium-buffered, so it is ready to use once expanded.
Do I need to feed plants in coco?
Yes. Coco is an inert medium, so plants rely on the nutrients you give them. Feed with a nutrient suited to coco from the start.
